The annual Forbes list is come out and, as expected, Jay-Z is at the top of the list for another year as the highest-paid rapper of 2021. But with this being the month Americans highlight the strides made by women, Doja Cat being the only female represented on the list makes it obvious there’s still a long way to go.

Zack O’Malley Greenburg, the curator of Forbes’ annual “highest-paid” list has gone indie and released his own “Hip-Hop’s Highest-Paid Artists of 2021” and the winners from the pandemic year are unshockingly typical.   For the year 2021,  Jay-Z made the most money with $470 million, while Kanye West and Diddy capped off the top 3 with $250 million and $75 million., respectively

There were also some surprises on the list with artists like Tech N9ne ($25 million) and Wiz Khalifa ($45 million) thanks to his weed dealings.  Also noteworthy were the artists who were left off, including Rick Ross who claimed he was richer than ever in 2021, Future, and Cardi B just to name a few.

Doja Cat’s inclusion at #10 (tied alongside Birdman) was glaring not because she’s falling short on getting all the bags (the singer is working it from all angles).  It is the fact that she was the only female on the list – Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion, and Nicki Minaj didn’t make the cut – that highlights how far the world, the United States, and hip-hop culture have to go for women to obtain equal footing for their hard work.

Meanwhile, Doja Cat and Eek! Games have teamed up to create a side story within the ever-popular game, “House Party.” She’s not the first public figure to do so but she is the first to bring her fun, black girl magic to the game. Expect Doja’s stock to go even higher up in 2022 with even more money moves like this.
