​​Lizzo is set to receive the distinguished Quincy Jones Humanitarian Award from the Black Music Action Coalition (BMAC). This noteworthy recognition comes after serious allegations made by her former dancers, casting the artist in a more positive and philanthropic light.

On Thursday, September 21, the Black Music Action Coalition (BMAC) will honor Lizzo at their upcoming 2023 gala. The pop singer known for her powerful voice and body-positive message will be receiving the Quincy Jones Humanitarian Award for her philanthropic work and commitment to social justice.

The body positivity advocate has dedicated her free time to giving back to different communities regarding scholarship,  social justice, and music. Throughout her career, Lizzo has raised and donated over half a million dollars to various programs and organizations.

One of the notable organizations the “Truth Hurts” singer has supported is Planned Parenthood, to which she generously donated $500,000 after the reproductive rights decision that overturned Roe v. Wade in June 2022. Understanding the significance of this issue, Lizzo stepped up to show her unwavering support for women’s rights.

Additionally, Lizzo has been an avid supporter of Juneteenth organizations, annually giving back half a million dollars to programs such as the Marsha P. Johnson Institute, Black Girls Smile, Sphinx Music, University of Houston, Save Our Sisters United, and Community Change. 

Her commitment to uplifting Black voices and supporting these initiatives makes her an influential figure in the philanthropic space. Moreover, Lizzo has made a difference through projects like Black Girl Ventures and the Bell Project. These endeavors aim to empower low-income individuals and provide opportunities for growth and success. 

Notably, Lizzo has also made significant contributions to her alma mater, the University of Houston. Through her Sasha Be Flooting Music Scholarship, valued at $50,000, Lizzo strives to nurture and support talented individuals who aspire to pursue a music career. 

This scholarship not only benefits deserving students but also strengthens the university’s music program.

Joining other notable honorees, such as Keke Palmer, Jermaine Dupri, and the late Clarence Avant, the Special artist will be celebrated at the 2023 gala presented by Live Nation. This event aims to recognize individuals in Black music who have made significant contributions to the industry and championed equity within the music community.

The exciting news follows after serious allegations brought up against the pop star. While basking in this well-deserved recognition, Lizzo is also dealing with legal issues. 

Previously, the “Rumors” singer’s former backup dancers accused her of sexual assault, poor working conditions, and body shaming. In response, Lizzo has reportedly planned to countersue for malicious prosecution, firmly asserting her innocence.

In a loosely similar vein, Diddy, the hip-hop mogul, demonstrated his commitment to supporting Black businesses and educational institutions. Recently, he donated $1 million to Jackson State University and its athletic program, highlighting the importance of investing in historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs).
