Trina, a legendary rapper who has collaborated with numerous female artists throughout her career, has always championed women’s empowerment in hip-hop. Her dedication to showcasing the talents of female rappers, both old school and new school, has made her a trailblazer in the industry.
With her recent recognition of the I Am Hip-Hop Award in 2022, the “Here We Go” rapper continues to inspire and uplift aspiring female artists.
During the interview, Trina addressed the criticism faced by newer female artists like Sexyy Red and Sukihana, who often receive backlash for their explicit lyrics and provocative imagery.
Trina firmly defended their choices, stating:
“They are over 21 and they can do whatever they want to do.” She further emphasized that there is no strict definition of “going too far” in music and expressed the importance of freedom of speech.
Trina continued:
“We’ve seen a lot of stuff living on this earth. These are young girls, they have to grow, they are going to grow into women, this is a freedom of speech like we’re not locked up, we’re not chained down, say what you want to say, make music of what you feel like. If you don’t like it, don’t listen, that’s why we have ears.”
The discussion surrounding female rap and empowerment extends beyond Trina’s perspective. Recently, legendary rapper Snoop Dogg and rising star Latto engaged in a candid conversation about the importance of unity among female artists.
