Diddy’s Highly Anticipated Sex Crimes Case Hits One Final Snag

Jury selection for the Diddy sex crimes case has been postponed.

Judge Delays Finalizing Diddy Jury

On Friday (May 9), Diddy appeared in court for the fifth day of jury selection for his highly publicized upcoming trial. However, according to The New York Times, Judge Arun Subramanian decided to postpone proceedings until May 12 after expressing fears that jurors selected before the weekend could get “cold feet” over the next couple of days and ask to excuse themselves from the case.

Since starting on Monday (May 5), the large jury pool has been whittled down to 43 people. On the first day of jury selection, 13 potential jurors were excluded for several reasons. Some people were sexual assault survivors or were closely related to sexual assault survivors. Others were disqualified for being related to law enforcement members or having their own past legal issues. Some had language barriers that prevented them from partaking.

On Monday (May 12), the final group of 12 jurors and six alternates will be selected. Opening arguments will start immediately afterward. The trial is expected to last eight to 10 weeks.

Diddy Could Face Life in Prison After Turning Down Plea Deal

Diddy was arrested last September following a seven-month investigation and charged with racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking and transportation to engage in prostitution. Authorities say that for years Diddy used his power, money and influence to force people to participate in drug-fueled sex orgies known as “freak offs” or “Wild King Nights.”

The music exec has pleaded not guilty. He recently turned down a plea deal. The details of the plea have not been released. If found guilty during trial, he could spend the rest of his life in prison.
