Despite previous reports that Marvel Studios was considering recasting the role of Black Panther’s T’Challa, a producer for the upcoming third film in the franchise has said that such discussions haven’t happened yet.

In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Nate Moore, a longtime Marvel executive who announced he’d be leaving the studio last year, dismissed claims that bringing a new T’Challa into the Marvel Cinematic Universe was in the works.

“The truth is, there’s no truth to those rumors. Never say never to anything, we haven’t really had a lot of creative conversations with Ryan Coogler yet, because he’s finishing his film Sinners, which comes out this year,” Moore said. “We’ll get into it later this year, but everything you read online is not true, if for no other reason than we just haven’t started [working on it].”

Moore, who’ll be remaining with Marvel Studios through mid-March of this year, will be serving as a producer on Black Panther 3. When his upcoming departure was reported by Variety, Kevin Feige shared a statement extending praise toward Moore, while also confirming that another Black Panther installment was happening.

“Nate is a fantastic executive and colleague as well as a wonderful friend to all of us here at Marvel Studios,” Feige said. “He has been a core member of our team since 2010, and his influence will continue to reverberate in our storytelling. Although we’ll miss him a great deal, we look forward to watching what he does next while also having the good fortune of working with him in a new way on our next Black Panther movie.”

Last month, entertainment journalist Jeff Sneider reported through his InSneider newsletter that Marvel Studios was finally “firmly open” to recasting T’Challa. The character was famously played by the late Chadwick Boseman, who made his introduction as the hero of Wakanda in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War.
