On July 15th, City Girls JT and Yung Miami graced the stage at the 2023 Broccoli Festival in Washington DC, hyping the crowd with their chart-topping hits including “Rodeo,” “P*** Talk,” “How To Pimp A N*gga,” and “Act Bad.”  However, the pair appeared cool and distant, leading to speculation that a long-rumored split may be imminent.

Throughout most of the performance, the City Girls had limited interaction, rarely appearing together on the same side of the stage.   The only time the duo appeared aligned was for their dance routine during “Rodeo.”

While the City Girls’ energy was undeniable, the lack of on-stage chemistry raised questions among fans about the state of their relationship.  The speculation peaked in light of recent events involving Queens rap icon, Nicki Minaj.

Rumors emerged suggesting that JT was setting up a backdoor collab with Nicki Minaj on JT’s latest single, “No Bars.” Nicki Minaj appeared to tease the collaboration with her verses audibly on the track. JT, who confessed her love for Nicki in 2021 then posted up friendship goals with the Queen of the Barbz on IG, with each praising the other’s “realness.”  However, the version of “No Bars” that dropped om July 14th was a JT-only version.

Nicki Minaj and Yung Miami may still have bad blood after a seemingly light-hearted Twitter feud in May 2023 over the origins of the phrase “into some thingsss.”  After the “Caresha, Please” podcast host used the term during an episode, the two exchanged light jabs about whether the phrase was a trademark of Nicki’s Queen Radio podcast or simply a common slang used by gays.

This is not the first flare up between Nicki Minaj and Yung Miami. In January 2021, Yung Miami’s City Girls’ partner JT weighed in on the duo’s past beef with Nicki Minaj, admitting, “I Love Her.”  Later, in May 2021, Yung Miami expressed her desire to be Nicki Minaj’s friend after she liked one of her Instagram posts.

Fans expressed their concerns on social media as rumors and speculation spiked after the Broccoli City show.

Twitter user @KENNBARRB reacted to Caresha’s failure to acknowledge the JT drop.  She said: “Notice how Caresha have yet to acknowledge Nicki Minaj and JT linking up and recording a extended version for No Bars which is a BIG DEAL.. She give me very much I wanna see you doing good just not better then me vibes.. The jealousy be Real loud!!”

City Girls’ on-stage chemistry question is just one example of private disputes gone public in the music industry. In March 2023, rapper Latto found herself embroiled in a social media dispute with Coi Leray following the release of Latto’s track “Put it On Da Floor.” The controversy erupted when Latto mentioned Coi Leray’s physique in her lyrics, prompting a swift response from Coi Leray on various social media platforms.
