Dame Dash reportedly has to give up several of his business interests. It’s being reported that the Roc-A-Fella Records co-founder is being made to sell his stake in several of his companies to cover a sizable debt, says AllHipHop.The matter stems from an $823,000 judgment Dame failed to pay.

The legal conflict began when Josh Webber filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against Dash in 2019 over a dispute involving the movie Dear Frank. WBLS reports that, despite no longer being associated with that film, Dash continued to market it under a new title, according to Webber’s initial lawsuit. Webber was awarded more than $800,000 in damages. It was reported in November 2024 that Dash had to auction his stake in Roc-A-Fella Records to cover that judgment.

On a related, but separate note, earlier this year, Dash was ordered to pay $4 million in damages that were awarded to Webber in a defamation lawsuit. Webber’s defamation suit alleges that Dame, during an appearance on the Earn Your Leisure podcast in March 2024, aired out the dispute between he and Webber, saying Webber and his partners stole from him. Webber claimed in this suit that he lost a $4 million producing and directing job on a Billy Bob Thornton project because of Dash’s comments on the podcast.

According to U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert W. Lehrburger, both Damon Dash and his company, Poppington LLC, must give over ownership of Dash Films Inc., Bluroc LLC, and Blakroc LLC. Dash also has to give up his stake in film ventures like Welcome to Blackroc, Honor Up, We Went to China, and Too Honorable — as well as various companies, such as 1996 Songs LLC and Lebanon Improvements LLC. Dame has until today to file objections.

In a 2022 interview, Dame reflected on his tumultuous career.

“There’s a positive to find in every situation, but if you can only see the negative, that’s exactly where you’ll stay,” Dash said. “And I will never stay in the negative. As soon as I feel negative, I want to get that out of my brain, so I can spend time creating. I’d rather spend that negative energy fighting for something positive. How are you going to win a war without being strategic about visualising the future? Without thinking there’s going to be a point where you get hit? There is no fight without getting hit, It’s all about being prepared to hit back.”
