De La Soul and Pharoah Monche are among the big names taking the stage at the LÓA music festival, which is happening in Laugardalur, Reykjavík, on June 21. Also among the star-studded lineup is Jamie xx, Yasiin Bey (Mos Def), Havoc of Mobb Deep, Joy Anonymous, and Skratch Bastid– as well as Icelandic artists like GDRN, Hildur, Saint Pete, Gugusar, Inspector Spacetime and more.

“Music lovers can start the countdown,” festival organizer Benedikt Freyr Jónsson (a.k.a. DJ B-Ruff) said in an interview. “The iconic hip-hop group De La Soul has finally released its full lineup, and topping it all off, Troy Jamerson, better known as Pharoahe Monch, will be joining them on stage.”

The festival is being treated as a major moment for Icelandic fans of classic hip-hop.

“[Monche] is known for his distinctive voice, deeply crafted lyrics, and high-energy stage presence,” Jónsson says. “He first broke through with Organized Konfusion and has since established himself as one of the most respected lyricists in the rap world. That he’s performing with De La Soul, for the first time in Iceland, is incredibly special.”

According to Icelandic Review, the LÓA Music and Street Food Festival is a new all-day summer event that combines live music and street food. It’s happening from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. on June 21 in Reykjavík at Laugardalu. LÓA is produced by Liveproject, which previously helmed shows with artists such as DJ Shadow, Talib Kweli and Booka Shade. This festival will also be hosted in collaboration with street food collective Götubitinn.

De La Soul scored a major milestone back in April. According to data from Chartmetric, the legendary rap group gained 15 million listeners after being added to the streaming listing for “Feel Good Inc,” the 2005 smash hit from Gorillaz that features De La.
