Trailers for long-awaited forthcoming action films will get some air time during the Super Bowl LVII. On Sunday, February 12, trailers expected to air include Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Fast X, The Flash and Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, during the Fox telecast of the Kansas City Chiefs versus Philadelphia Eagles showdown.
Film trailers played during the Super Bowl traditionally go on to amass box office success. Last year, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was the most-viewed commercial spot on social media following the L.A. Rams’ defeat against the Cincinnati Bengals with 93 million views, per Deadline. The Marvel Studios epic also boasted the third-highest grossing film in the domestic box office with $187.4 million, behind Top Gun: Maverick ($718.3 million) and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever $436.4 million.
With Marvel’s latest film Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania set to premiere on Friday, February 17, the latter three films will have summer releases. Fast X debuts on May 19, followed by Transformers on June 9, while The Flash is slated for June 16. The latter film is arguably the highest anticipated of the summer, as actor Ezra Miller is expected to return to the DC Studios franchise after a number of controversies in 2023.
“Ezra is completely committed to their recovery,” said DC co-head Peter Safran during a DC Studios Chapter 1 presentation last month. “And we are fully supportive of that journey that they’re on right now. When the time is right, when they feel like they’re ready to have the discussion, we’ll all figure out what the best path forward is. But right now, they are completely focused on their recovery. And in our conversations with them over the last couple of months, it feels like they’re making enormous progress.”
What happens when Terrace Martin invites fellow Angeleno Channel Tres into his world? The way-too-fonky track, “Chucks.” “The song ‘Chucks’ is a sonic picture that represents New Los Angeles,” Martin says about the collaboration. “The driving pulse of the song represents the tempo of traffic, the bass line is the attitude of a true Angeleno, the space that Channel commands with his vocals closely relates to the motion of water.
