Fondly remembered by the Obamas as a cherished part of their family, Campbell’s passing has left a void in their lives and the hearts of those who knew him. As investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding his death, the former first couple mourns the loss of “a truly wonderful man.”
Tafari Campbell’s journey began as a talented sous chef at the White House, where his passion for food and its ability to unite people shone brightly. In a statement issued by the Obamas regarding the chef’s untimely passing, they wrote:
“Tafari was a beloved part of our family. When we first met him, he was a talented sous chef at the White House — creative and passionate about food and its ability to bring people together. In the years that followed, we got to know him as a warm, fun, extraordinarily kind person who made all of our lives a little brighter.”
Impressed by his culinary skills and captivated by his personality, the Obamas asked Campbell to continue serving as their personal chef even after leaving the White House. The Obama’s stated:
“That’s why, when we were getting ready to leave the White House, we asked Tafari to stay with us, and he generously agreed. He’s been part of our lives ever since, and our hearts are broken that he’s gone. Today we join everyone who knew and loved Tafari — especially his wife Sherise and their twin boys, Xavier and Savin — in grieving the loss of a truly wonderful man.”
On July 23, the Massachusetts authorities launched a search operation in the waters near the Obama residence after receiving reports of a missing paddleboarder. Tragically, Campbell’s lifeless body was found around 10 a.m., recovered from the Edgartown Great Pond by Massachusetts State Police divers.
The accident occurred just 100 feet from shore at a depth of approximately 8 feet.
As the Obamas and those who knew Tafari Campbell grieve his loss, the cause of his death remains under investigation. The State Police Detective Unit for the Cape and Islands District and Edgartown Police are diligently working to uncover the tragic accident’s circumstances.
While the investigation continues, the hearts of many mourn the passing of this talented and cherished chef.
The untimely loss of Tafari Campbell, Barack Obama’s sous chef, is a stark reminder of the fragility of life. Sadly, the music world has also experienced an unexpected loss, as rapper Gangsta Boo, also known as Lola Mitchell, passed away due to an accidental overdose.
