The 16th Annual Headies Awards Show,  known for honoring creativity and innovation in African and Afrobeats artists, is set for Sunday, September 3, at The Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta, GA. The award show has recently announced its “International Artist of the Year” nominees: Drake, Future, Don Toliver, Ed Sheeran, and Selena Gomez.

While many fans are excited about the nominations, some have expressed disappointment over the absence of Chris Brown in the category. 

A social media user wrote, “Chris Brown should be at the top of this category,” highlighting his consistency and promotion of Afrobeats. Another user questioned why Brown wasn’t considered, stating, “Is Chris Brown a Joke to you, he’s been the most consistent international act who’s been promoting Afrobeats more than all these acts listed.”

In other news, Drake has recently achieved another milestone in his career. The rapper has become the first hip-hop artist to earn over $5 million in a single arena concert in the United States. This accomplishment comes as he embarks on his Life Is A Blur Tour, thrilling fans with his incredible performances.

Meanwhile, Future, known for his contributions to the trap music genre, has been honored as “Trapper of the Year” by the Trap Museum, founded by T.I. in Atlanta, GA. In early June, T.I. presented Future with a specially crafted ring to acknowledge his influence and success in the trap music scene.

As the award show season continues, the MTV VMAs have also announced their nominations for 2023. Powerhouses such as Beyoncé, Doja Cat, Nicki Minaj, and SZA dominate the categories, showcasing the talent and impact of women in the industry.
