Issa Rae’s show, Rap Sh!t, centers around two aspiring female rappers, Mia and Shawna, as they navigate the cutthroat Miami rap scene. Building on the success of its first season, the upcoming second season is highly anticipated.
During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the TV mogul revealed her wish list for special cameos in season three, which includes Megan Thee Stallion, Cardi B, and Nicki Minaj. She stated:
“There’s a list. I mean, we want Meg.. We want Cardi. Nicki would be a nice little tie-around.” She continued, “If we could unite them… Maybe in season three, we can unite the fan bases.”
The tensions between Cardi B and Nicki Minaj date back to 2018, when their rap beef peaked.
The drama began when both artists were featured on Migos‘ hit song “Motorsport,” and their scenes were shot separately. This escalated to a physical altercation at a New York Fashion Week party, where the bronx rapper infamously threw a shoe at Nicki Minaj.
In recent years, their beef has simmered but not completely faded, with ongoing arguments involving their husbands adding fuel to the fire following the 2023 VMAs, where Nicki Minaj hosted while Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion performed their newest collaboration song, “BONGOS.”
Adding to the complex dynamics, rumors of beef between Megan Thee Stallion and Nicki Minaj have also emerged.
While Cardi B and Megan have collaborated and showcased a supportive relationship, the Houston Hottie’s relationship with the Queen of Rap seemed to be drifting apart. Both Nicki Minaj and Megan Thee Stallion have partnered in 2019, with their hit single, “Hot Girl Summer.”
Nicki’s alleged subliminals and shading towards Megan have fueled speculations of tension between them.
However, in September 2022, Nicki Minaj became a trending topic from her show, Queen Radio, where she spilled some “piping-hot tea,” as she hinted at “someone” telling her to get an abortion after she declined to drink alcohol.
Following the Queens-bred rapper’s claims, the Barbz took to social media to accuse Megan of being the person Nicki spoke about. Megan responded to the fans, saying that it was a lie. Then, on Nov. 3, the release of Megan’s vulnerable track “Cobra” further ignited suspicions of Nicki’s indirect response, as she posted a meme photo with a man removing headphones with a disgusted look on the same day.
The second season of Rap Sh!t will premiere on HBO Max on Thursday, Nov. 9. Originally scheduled for Aug. 10, the production faced delays due to the writer’s and actor’s strike, but now it’s ready to captivate audiences again.
