Jay-Z’s iconic 40/40 nightclub in New York City’s Flatiron District has closed its doors after 20 years of operation. The rap legend’s establishment was a hotspot for celebrities and sports stars alike.

According to the venue’s website, they are currently closed but plan to reopen at a new location in February 2024. The 40/40 Club, named after one of baseball’s most prestigious achievements, was known for its power and speed.
It honored players who hit 40 home runs and stole 40 bases in a single season, including baseball greats like Barry Bonds, Alex Rodriguez, Jose Canseco, and Alfonso Soriano.
The lounge opened in 2003 on West 25th Street and hosted numerous high-profile events, including J. Cole’s mixtape release parties and NBA superstar LeBron James’ birthday celebrations.
In 2012, the club underwent a $10 million renovation to compete with other upscale clubs in Manhattan.
It even expanded into a small chain with locations in Las Vegas, Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, Atlantic City, and the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
While the reasons behind the closure of the Flatiron District location remain unclear, plans are underway to relocate the club. In the meantime, the Brooklyn location will continue to operate. The venue’s website had the following message about its closing:
“We are currently closed but will reopen at a new location in February 2024. The 40/40 Club is named after one of baseball’s most prestigious achievements. A benchmark for power and speed, The 40/40 Club includes players who hit 40 home runs and stole 40 bases in one season. Barry Bonds (1996), Alex Rodriguez (1998), Jose Canseco (1988), and Alfonso Soriano (2006) are the only four to hold this title.”
In other Jay-Z news, the mogul also teamed up with a group of investors to bring a casino to New York City’s Times Square. The “Empire State of Mind” rapper also wrote a letter to urge New York to consider it and start constructing the proposed casino.
In other news, Atlanta rap legend Ludacris expanded his business by opening his Chicken & Beer restaurant at Los Angeles International Airport. Ludacris, who already has a successful location at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, continues to make strides in the culinary industry.
