On Wednesday, August 23, Numerous LA law enforcement vehicles pulled up to rapper Polo G’s LA mansion, placing the rapper in handcuffs as he surrendered with his hands held high. The executed search warrant concerns Polo G’s brother, Taurean (known as Trench Baby).
However, Polo G, whose real name is Taursus Tremani Barlett, was detained as officers attempted to determine if he was harboring a fugitive, which Polo G’s mother, Stacia Mac, recently clarified.
Videos captured the moment as Polo G and others at the residence followed law enforcement’s orders and emerged from the house, surrendering willingly. While four suspects, including Polo G’s brother, have been arrested, none have been booked yet.
Leilani, the rapper’s younger sister who was also detained following the raid, was released the same afternoon. Stacia ensures “updates on [her] other children are forthcoming.”
Prior to Leilani’s release, Stacia Mac took to Instagram to advocate for her children, alerting concerned fans that she hadn’t heard from her children, LAPD failed to allow the attorney to speak with her children, and she has yet to receive a copy of said search warrant.
The Chicago native’s attorney, Bradford Cohen, asserted that the police are holding him under the pretense of confirming his criminal records despite his previous charges being dismissed. Cohen told TMZ:
“Polo is being held under the guise that the police department needs to double check that he is not a convicted felon as there was a purported firearm found in the home. He is not and never was a convicted felon. Any previous charges he had I got dismissed and it’s all public record. They are also denying myself and my California law partner Zoe Aron access to him while he is being illegally detained.”
On a lighter note, Polo G is gearing up to release his highly anticipated new album, Hood Poet, which is set to drop on September 15, promising to showcase the “RAPSTAR” rapper’s lyrical prowess and personal experiences. The album’s announcement came during a 24-hour live-stream painting of the Hood Poet mural, followed by a cinematic album announcement trailer premiere.
Days prior to Polo G’s run-in with LA police, Gunplay made headlines after his arrest for allegedly pointing a gun at his wife and child. The Miami rapper faces charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, domestic violence, false imprisonment, and child abuse.
