Surveillance footage shows five armed men storming an Oakland jewelry store last month—until the owner flipped the script and locked them inside. When the robbers tried to force their way out, gunfire erupted. Two were killed, and the three who survived have now been charged with their own crew’s deaths under California’s “felony murder” law.
Under that rule, if someone dies during a felony—like armed robbery—everyone involved can be held responsible, even if the victim acted in self-defense.
