Sean Kingston and Mother Found Guilty in Million Fraud Case

Sean Kingston and his mother Janice Turner have been found guilty in a $1 million federal fraud case.

Sean Kingston and Mom Convicted in Fraud Case

On March 28, the crooner and his mom appeared in federal court in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. to hear the verdict, which the jury delivered after less than four hours of deliberations, according to NBC News. Kingston and Turner were found guilty on all counts, including one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and four counts of wire fraud. The mother and son reportedly wept as the verdict was read.

Kingston was ordered to be put on house arrest until his sentencing. His 61-year-old mother was taken into federal custody where she will remain until learning her fate as well. Both will be sentenced on July 11.

Sean Kingston Faces Serious Prison Time

Sean Kingston and his mother were arrested after federal agents raided his rented Florida mansion last May. The arrests came after the company Ver Ver Ent. accused the singer of swindling them out of hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of merchandise, including a 232-inch television. Other companies also claimed Kingston and his mother would get expensive items and never pay for them.

Ver Ver Ent.’s attorney, Dennis Card, told news reporters at the time, “He likes having bling, he likes showing off, he’s a showman. My client has a $150,000 television sound system that’s in there, there’s also about $1 million worth of watches that are in there, there’s a $80,000 custom bed that was ordered. This is an organized systematic fraud.”

Last July, Kingston and his mother were indicted on wire fraud charges. They both pleaded not guilty. Both Sean Kingston and his mother could face up to 20 years in prison.
