Sheff G will spend five years in prison after pleading guilty to attempted murder and conspiracy charges yesterday.
On Wednesday (March 26), the Brooklyn rapper learned his fate in a gang RICO case that has been hanging over his head since 2023. The Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office announced Sheff G, born Michael Williams, has pled guilty to second-degree attempted murder and second and fourth-degree conspiracy. In exchange for his plea, Sheff will receive a federal prison sentence of five years, Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Danny Chun ordered. The rapper will be on five years of probation following his release. Prosecutors were pushing for a 20-year sentence.
“Notoriety could not shield this defendant from justice,” Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said in a statement. “He used his fame to fund and direct violence, terrorizing our streets, and though we sought a much longer sentence, he will now be held to account. Brooklyn will not tolerate gangs that endanger our communities, and we remain committed to dismantling these criminal networks and holding those responsible fully accountable.”
Sheff G is one of 32 alleged members of the 8 Trey Crips and its affiliate, the 9 Ways gang, who were indicted in May of 2023. Authorities charged the group with 12 shootings that involved over a dozen victims, including three innocent bystanders. The group is also charged with the 2020 murder of Theodore Senior, who was killed by Sheff G codefendant Kamondre Dekattu during a mass shooting where five other gang members were shot, according to the indictment.
Prosecutors say Sheff G used “the earnings from his music career to fuel gun violence in Brooklyn by offering money and giving expensive jewelry to those who commit acts of violence.” Two days after Senior’s murder, investigators say Sheff hosted a lavish steakhouse dinner in Manhatten to celebrate. According to the indictment, Sheff G also drove three gunmen to Flatbush, Brooklyn, in 2021 to retaliate for a shooting at the rapper’s New Jersey mansion. The trio missed their intended target and injured two innocent bystanders instead.
Sheff G is the 17th defendant to plead guilty in the case. He will officially be sentenced on Aug. 13. Sleepy Hallow was also charged in the indictment. His case is still pending. Both rappers endorsed Donald Trump at a Bronx, N.Y. rally for the then-presidential hopeful last May.
