‘Enigmatic Society’ album cover

Dinner Party is welcoming guests to their Enigmatic Society. On Friday (April 14), the jazz, soul, and hip-hop supergroup, composed of Terrace Martin, Kamasi Washington, and Robert Glasper, released their sophomore album, which features 9th Wonder, Arin Ray, Ant Clemons, and Phoelix.

Lead singles from Enigmatic Society included the Ray-assisted “For Granted” and “Insane” with Clemons. In 2020, the group released their eponymous debut and then followed up with the deluxe, Dinner Party: Dessert, which featured Cordae, Herbie Hancock, Buddy, Bilal, Tank and the Bangas, Punch, and Rapsody, alongside Reuben Vincent, Malaya, and Alex Isley. Dessert received a Grammy nomination for Best Progressive R&B Album in 2022.

Dinner Party came together when Martin and Glasper were on the road with Glasper’s R+R=NOW, originally meeting in 1996 at a jazz band camp. The longtime friends would call on Washington, who Martin met while in high school jazz band and seminal beatmaker 9th Wonder to enhance their production.

This weekend, the trio will perform at Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California, headlined by Frank Ocean, BLACKPINK, and Bad Bunny. In a recent interview with SPIN, Martin said that he’s “looking forward to combining elements of jazz on such a big stage with elements of hip-hop, R&B, and soul” at the festival.

“I’m so happy people are putting us on that big of a stage, so we can give them some real beautiful, vibe-y ass music. I’m excited, man,” he added. “I’m always fascinated with seeing an idea grow and complete. That’s what I’m addicted to in this whole game.”
