The Weeknd has been named the world’s “most popular music artist” by Guinness World Records. The recent achievement stems from their study on Spotify data, which includes some of the biggest names in the music industry.

The “I Feel It Coming” artist was named the “most popular music artist” by Guinness World Records based on Spotify data in comparison to the streaming numbers of other major artists in the music game. The data review also factored in the monthly listener category on the streaming platform.
At the end of February, The Weeknd became the first artist to reach 100M listeners on Spotify with 111.4M streaming followers.
The artists who finished as runner-ups include Miley Cyrus, Ed Sheeran, Rihanna, Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift, and Shakira.
The Weeknd’s 2020 song “Blinding Lights” is the most streamed record on Spotify, with 3.4 billion streams.
This comes on the heels of the Canadian singer’s fifth Diamond certified for his 2015 single, “Earned It.”
The Weeknd’s fellow Canadian artist Drake also surpassed 75 billion streams on the same platform.
Speaking of other accomplishments, Jay-Z and Beyoncé have over 20 Grammys. Queen Bey reigns with 32, and Hov is not too far behind with 23. However, they still weren’t considered to be the most popular artists.
The Weeknd also topped another category in streaming recently with a few other stars in music.
