Before his death, Virgil Abloh made a commitment to help inner-city kids explore new opportunities.  Now, the work of the boundary-pushing fashion icon who grew up in Chicago is coming to fruition with the launch of his designer snowboards to help get kids from the “hood to the woods.”

Abloh collaborated with athlete and longtime friend, Russell Winfield, to create a limited release snowboard presented by preeminent snowboard brand, RIDE. Virgil was an avid snowboarder and had been working on the collaboration with Winfield and RIDE for the past two years.

“Through snowboarding, I was blessed to build a friendship with the superpower Virgil Abloh,” says Winfield.  “He and I share the same passion for snowboarding and growing the culture, I’m very excited to share this special project he and I put together before his passing.”

Of the proceeds from the sales, $5 will be going to “Hoods to Woods”, a nonprofit introducing inner-city teens to the outdoors through snowboarding and $5 will go to Virgil’s Postmodern Scholarship Fund.

“RIDE Snowboards has given us an opportunity to create something special through the release of this limited edition, Algorythm. This board is extremely limited and is sure to become a collector’s item,” says Winfield.

The limited-edition Virgil snowboards will be dropping on February 2.

Besides the snowboards, the late designer, who died of brain cancer in 2021, worked with Louis Vuitton to create a collaboration with Nike that has people scrambling to get one.

A few celebrities have been posting their gifted Louis Vuitton x Nike Air Force 1 Lows, which are on their way to being the most talked-about sneaker this season.

Virgil Abloh died on November 28, 2021 of a rare form of cancer. His passing devastated the fashion and music world. Many of his peers, including Drake, Kanye West, and Tyler the Creator, expressed their respect for him in the wake of his death.
