Three years after its unofficial release in 2022, Ye‘s Donda 2 album is finally on digital streaming platforms.
On Tuesday (April 29), Ye decided to release his Donda 2 album to the masses. The project is available on a Spotify account named Donda and YouTube. Yeezy made the announcement during a livestream with producer Digital Nas.
“We gotta get Donda 2 out today, in the next couple of hours,” Ye stated. “We’ll change stuff and everything but we have to get this out.”
Throughout the day, Ye continued to provide updates on the album, which was not without its own drama. XXXTentacion’s former producer John Cunningham called Ye out for attempting to put out the song “True Love” featuring XXX without permission. Ye relented and decided to pull the late rapper’s vocals after having a phone conversation with John.
Ye finally put out the project around 10 p.m. The official version of Donda 2 is executive-produced by Digital Nas and features 18 songs. However, on Wednesday (April 30), Ye claimed some of the songs would be pulled due to disputes with DeAndre “Free” Maiden, who manages the producers Boogz Da Beast and AllDay. Maiden has previous credits on Ye’s Netflix documentary, jeen-yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy.
Ye shared a screenshot of a message showing Maiden refusing to authorize eight songs on Donda 2 because of money owed.
Ye captioned the post: “Free Maiden tried to charge me 3 million dollars for these beats from people I showed how to make beats to now he going to take down Donda 2 Managers [shrug emoji].”

As the follow-up album to 2021’s Donda, the sequel originally did not come out on DSPs. Instead, it was released exclusively on a $200 Stem Player device created by Kano Computing Ltd., after Ye debuted the album on livestream. Future executive-produced the album, which consisted of 16 tracks, including “Eazy” featuring The Game and “City of Gods” with Fivio Foreign and Alicia Keys. The Stem Player was supposed to allow fans to change production aspects of the songs at their discretion. However, the hefty pricetag led to fans pirating the album instead of paying for the Stem Player.
The album also led to multiple copyright lawsuits, including one filed for the unauthorized use of a Boogie Down Productions track. Not being released on DSPs meant the album was not eligible for Billboard charts. The project and the janky rollout were mostly panned in reviews. Ye later claimed the Stem Player made over $2 million in revenue, but insisted he didn’t make a dime.
Ye’s renewed interest in Donda 2 comes as he’s working on his Cuck album, initially called WW3, with Dave Blunts.
